I have the Dock charger that came with my 2G iphone. Can I use it to charge my 3GS? Asking because, it does not slide in neatly, I really have to push hard. If I do not push hard, it springs right back. I have been charging it that way for the past couple of days but this pushing thing make me wonder if I am somehow damaging something on the 3GS.

I would definitely not force it in.

The 2G was a completely different shape than the 3G/3GS.

That being said, I've heard of people shaving the old docks down to fit a 3G/3GS.

OK. The lack of compatibility is in the outer shape and not the metal charging connector on the dock? If so, I will feel a bit better.

Yes, that's exactly right. The 2G was completely flat. The 3G's curvature in shape prevents it from fitting.
