Using the Mac as an Airplay speaker

Hi all

Silly question perhaps... but im a bit confused with the implementation of Monterey's airplay on Macs.

I was expecting a Monterey Mac to appear in the Home app as an airplay speaker as HomePods and Sonos devices do etc etc and then when I ask to play music 'everywhere' it would include the Mac in that.

However, it does not. The Mac appears as a selectable Airplay 2 speaker if air playing from my iPhone etc.. but that's not quite the same thing.

Are my expectations a bit wrong here? Or have I missed a setting somewhere.

I think that’s how’s it’s supposed to work. I believe your Mac won’t show up in Home.app because unlike an ATV or HomePod, it is not a Home hub.

that's not why things show up in home.
granted its not a home hub.

However other airplay 2 speakers do.... and that's exactly what the Mac is supposed to be under Monterey.
