Using the sd card slot for additional storage

Being that the SSD storage on the new 13" Macbook Airs is generally 128gb except for the high end 13" I was wondering if anyone had considered using the sd card slot for their iTunes or iPhoto libraries? If so would any card do or would it have to be a high speed card. Thanks
