Hi,

If I get a usb-c to lighting cable, can the usb-c thunderbolt 3 ports on the macbook pros 2016 or newer fast charge? If not, how many amps does the port output? It seemed like the old macbook pro usb-a ports charged my iphone quite fast, faster than any other laptop.

Well check this out:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204377

The "old" macbook pros 2012-2015 charge an iphone over usb-a at 2.1A. It is quite fast and no doubt the reason why I am not imagining things.

Please tell me the newer ones 2016-2018 charge at least at 2.1A over usb-c? I can't find this information except this thread: https://apple.stackexchange.com/que...-charge-an-iphone-ipad-from-a-newer-usb-c-mac

It suggests a max of 1A, which is nothing special.

If it charges at 1A then that is yet another regression in these newer macbook pros. Maybe I'm the only one who does this, but I commonly charge my iphone with my macbook pro. I would not do it if it didn't charge at 2.1A.
