I have two accounts being downloaded:

account 1 is set as an Exchange account so I can access my calendar and contacts on the phone

account 2 is set as a gmail account, though I am unable to delete messages on this one. When I swipe my finger over an email, instead of a delete button, I get an archive button. Anyone have any idea why I can not delete emails? The only way is for me to move them into the trash.

Thanks.

Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Accounts

Choose the gmail account > Turn off archive messages.

You can now delete your messages.

Problem solved!
