Using two phones

I just wanted to know how people are able to use two phones as their daily drivers. My phone is my most important device and I use it to carry around all my essential information, content and it has all the apps I need on a daily basis. I think if I got another phone I'd just default to using one of them (iPhone) and the other would be neglected.

Sometimes I think it would be fun to have an android phone to run along side my iPhone. I haven't used an android device consistently for over a year now and I think that I'm getting behind on the android scene as I'm totally emersed in the iOS ecosystem. I used to read android magazines and listen to podcasts. I don't do that anymore because I don't have any android devices and even when I try to listen I feel disconnected. I've always been into technology and although I'm completely happy with my iOS devices I think it's restricting me in some ways as the scene is not as fast paced as the android scene.


However at the same time I think that if I bought an android phone it would be a waste of money because it wouldn't fit in with my other devices and I would end up not using it. Apart from the geek factor I'm not sure what an android phone could realistically offer me that I would actually use/need.

I'm thinking of buying a galaxy S6 edge plus. The benefit I can see is the camera which I've always enjoyed on Samsung devices. I used to spend a lot of time using my Samsung phones to take pictures of scenery, some days I'd go out to specific places just to take pictures and then spend time editing them. I don't do this with my iPhone. I only use it say when I'm on vacation or if it's a special occasion.

The only other thing I can see myself doing is customisation. Apart from the usual customisation that you can do with android I'm keen to try out the themes on the latest gen Samsung devices. However I think after a while I would get bored and not use it anymore. Then I'd start to think that it was a waste of money. However on the other hand I can afford to buy it and if I didn't buy it I'd only spend the money on a handbag which is obviously not as useful as a phone lol

Also if I started to experience any of the old issues that I had with Samsung devices (poor battery, lag) it would annoy me.


So for those who own more than one phone, how do you manage to get enough usage out of them all to justify owning more than one?

Yes I use a Sony Z3 Compact Tablet as my daily driver alongside a Z5 premium.

The Z5 to take calls and pics, the Z3 tablet for everything else. Normal phones are too small for screen based activities. The Z5 is also a backup in the event the Z3 tablet runs out of battery.

Ultimately one ot the two devices will be rarely used (Z5 in my case) so if cost is an important factor then it probably isn't worth it.

I have the 6s+ and the Note 5. Love them both for different reason. I switch between the two phone whenever i get the urge.
But as you said in a previous thread. The camera on Samsung phones is topnotch. If I am going hiking or attend a birthday party where I want to take the best pictures possible, I use my Note 5. Besides the camera being better the camera also allows voice activation. Which for me is a big plus. I don't have lag on my N5.

There are things both phones do well and both operating systems do well. It's the best of both worlds!

Nexus 6P & iPhone 6S Plus.

Used much the same in day to day usage, but like having both Android & iOS - and because I have a few Android Apps (essentially web wrappers) for clients on the playstore - I will always need an android anyway. iOS integration with all my other devices means I like having my iPhone too.

I don't have 2 phones, but I'm in both ecosystems with a Galaxy S6 Edge+ and an iPad Air 2. Loving the combo. I use my iPad as my main device, because of the big screen, but the Galaxy is great at what it does.

I have four phones activated through T-Mobiles. One of them is use to receive calls on and the other three are mostly used for apps and to make occasional calls on as well. No one knows those other phones numbers. I look into many of the same apps using different accounts so I can stay logged in on them without having to logout if I had just one phone. I seriously love the camera on my Note 4/Note Edge more than the cameras on my iPhones.

Out of curiosity, why three different iPhones? I would expect 2 iPhone and 2 Android to be more common, or even the reverse of your setup (3 Android/1 Apple).

I put no thought into what I wanted to use. I bought the Note 4 and Note Edge last January and the the 6+ in February. This year, I wasn't sure what new iPhone I wanted so I ordered the 6S+ first and then decided I wanted the 6S too so I ordered it a week later. I've been taking the 6S with to work because it's much easier to use one handed, especially to make a call.

I just buy whatever phone I want to buy and have some fun using it.

My love for gadgets and all things tech is justification enough to possess more than one mobile device.

I use whatever I feel like using. I have more than two phones and I have no intention to change that. I like both worlds, Android and iOS, therefore switch every week or month. The Android phones are more used for media consumption whereas I use my iPhone more for business related things. But that, too, sometimes changes.

The Wife and I were 2 phone jugglers mainly for travelling and splitting work vs home phones, plus it was a good way of recycling older phones, however when the S5 dual sim came out I swapped the wife over to one and the same for myself when the S6 dual came out although I did have the S6 Edge for a while.

Obviously there is no Apple alternative to this. The MS and Android/Google eco is very strong now and even the MS one is in part available across all 3 main platforms for cloud services files/photos/MS Office

I never used Imessages or FaceTime as most people I know tend to use WhatsApp or Line or Skype which is why in part of the Apple Eco breaks down being restrictive to IPhone. Additional streaming/allshare on Android is much more flexible IMO. As for answering calls etc on my rMB never done that and similar features are already coming via Windows 10/Cortana if you bootcamp or have other Windows devices.

If you buy International variants you tend to get updates faster less bloat etc.

You will get bored eventually with theming but will remember how useful the back button really is and how far better the Android file system and access has improved over the last year

Still having 2 phones is fun with plenty of options on both OS's

Exactly what I was going to post. I've got a Nexus 6P, iPhone 6, and a Lumia 1520 and switch between the three whenever I desire to do so. My SIM card is in the 6P the most of the time, but it's fun to move my SIM over to the others every once and a while.

Nexus 6p and iPhone. As mentioned, best of both worlds. Some things work better on each device. Run a few contracts so always got the latest version of something.

I've been using the T-Mobile 4 lines, 10GB each for $120 since September. I'm just having fun for awhile. One day I'll cancel two of the lines and settle down a bit. Or not.

Out of all of the phones, if you put them side by side, what is the signal (dBm) from the T-Mobile towers? All the same? Were you originally an iPhone/iOS user and then you bought some Androids/or? How did it happen? What % of your time is using iOS vs. Android?

I have a Note 5 now as well. Side by side, the signal is generally the same between all the phones meaning no dropped calls and fast data speeds. I don't know the dBm but I always get 5 bars on the Android phones and between 4-5 on the iPhones.

I became an iPhone user with the original iPhone and have bought every iPhone except for the iPhone 5. When the iPhone 5 came out, I didn't think it was worth buying and so I bought my first Android phone, a Nexus 4. A few days later, I bought a Nexus 7 tablet. I still have both and occasionally use them.

I have since bought every iPhone as well, the 5S, 6+, 6S+ and the 6S skipping the 6. I bought the Note 4 and note 5 along with the iPhone 6+ last January.

I've owned the Note 5 for a week now and moved my main sim into that phone and take it with me as my daily phone now. I still take the 6S with me as well for my job just because it's easier to make call on with one hand at my job.

This year, depending on the specs of the S7, I may buy it since it's about the size of the 6+.

I do prefer Samsung phones lately over the iPhone. I was kind of thinking of buying the latest Nexus phone also but I'll probably skip it and see what happens next year. I hate how Google sells the Nexus phones each year. I end up losing interest in the thing by the time it's readily available without having to wait weeks for it. I'm sure I'm not the only one who ends up buying something else due to the way the Nexus is sold each year. If I pay $500+ for a phone, I want it delivered the next day.
