So..i am on holiday and bought the unlocked 3G 16GB iphone in Hong Kong and will be returning to the united states soon. As i understand my options are with ATT and T mobile as far as carriers are concerned (i will need to cancel my current sprint account - which is fine). I know alot of people talk about using unlocked phones with T mobile and ATT but does anyone have specific experience with the latest hong kong (legally unlocked) i phone. I don't like ATT and would rather use T mobile. Any help? suggestions? thoughts?? Please advise....

cheers

answer to my question

I have already bought the iphone from the apple store in hong kong. this is not my question.

My question pertains to the specifics of using a HK unlocked phone in the US with either T mobile or ATT. Please see original question.

thanks for your reply

I too am thinking of purchasing the iPhone in HK to be used in the US, but my greatest fear is that once back in the US, Apple will force you to either incur roaming charges or automatically put you back on to AT&T's network. I currently have Tmobile and am happy with them. When I asked Tmobile about it, they stated that they did not have any technical help on the iphone and they would not be able to help with anything should features not work properly. But that is about the only thing I could find about it. But I am interested to hear if you are able to use the iphone successfully here in the US with Tmobile.

using unlocked HK iphone in US

thanks for this informaton

Yes i am concerned about these things too. I am a with sprint right now, so will have to cancel service with them, but wonder if i need to sign a 2yr contract with either T mobile or ATT, or maybe i do not have to since i already have my phone.

My other worry is that i have a 1 yr warranty when i bought the phone - but i got two answers with regards to this at the HK apple store - ie world wide warranty and apple will abide by this any where in the world. the other was that i would need to send back to honk kong??

Also when i go back to the states can i purchase the I care package from apple, yet go with T mobile.....is this possible??? the i have software support?? Or i take it that thy only cover for ATT customers. I am scared if something goes wrong - i do not want to be stranded.

i dont like ATT

so many questions???

on u tube there is video of someone using the unlocked i phone with t mobile sim card and it seems to work fine

any thoughts? anyone? anyone?

I live in Japan and would like to purchase an iPhone but would prefer to keep my current provider of DoCoMo.

I've been told that I can purchase an iPhone in HK, bring it here, slip in my SIM chip and all is good.

Still I am a bit hesitant for the same reasons the OP states.

Hi Bertiefinster...did you ever get the iphone to work on a T-mobile network or did you decide to go with AT&T instead.
