Using your Mac and connection to host?

Once you design your website, how feasible is it to host the page on your mac or another box in your house with just a standard high speed connection...not a T1.

I don't expect a ton of traffic. It would just be an informational page linked off of another page that doesn't have much traffic. For a better idea, we are a subgroup of this organization. The page hosted on my connection would be for our personal use to host pics and blog about our events and such...maybe a message board if possible. Ideas?

For personal use it wouldn't be much of a problem at all.

The basic process is getting your web server software setup (I assume you're talking about on your Mac at home, but if it's on another computer it doesn't really matter). Then you'd modify your router/switch settings to forward the appropriate ports (typically port 80 for http to the proper computer.

It can get more complicated with domain names and that sort of thing, but it would easy if you have a fixed external IP address.
