Hi all,

Just wanted to ask a question about jailbreaking your iphone, so if you go to the O2 store in the UK on Nov 9th and purchase the iphone for £269 and then come home and then jailbreak the phone, just so you dont have to activate the phone through itunes, and then could you use your normal O2 simcard? As you would be using your O2 simcard that came with your current O2 contract, would you need to unlock the phone, or could you use the iphone then with your current contract O2 sim inside?

Sorry guys, the Iphone is locked down to the Sim card that comes with it when you buy it. If you could pop any O2 Sim card in then most people would just take out a pay as you go or Pay monthly Sim only option (for example O2 do a £35 a month for 1200 Min's and 1000 texts Sim only option).

The way I understand it is that if your already an existing O2 contract customer and want to switch to their new iphone tariff, then they will issue u with a new 'Iphone O2 sim' and have your existing number transferred to it.
Gosh that means you would need to hack/unlock your iphone just to use it on any other O2 non iphone tariff. Ridiculous

Yeah, I think you need to unlock the phone and use your own sim. This is probably what I will do. I pay £20 and get 200 minutes + 200 texts which is the same as the £35 tariff, plus from sometime soon all O2 customers will get unlimited data. The only thing I think you will miss out on is the free cloud connection.

From the Uk iPhone launch:

10:42 - Q: Unlimited data packages: will those go to other contracts as well?

Matthew: "On 1st October we'll be rolling those out for all out customers."
Steve: "It's the future."

You shouldn't have to jailbreak or unlock your iPhone to use your O2 SIM card. You only need to activate your iPhone using using something like INdependence. At least that's how it works here in the states for AT&T SIMs.
