uTorrent for Mac is supposed to auto update to uTorrent Web but hasn't for me.

Is anyone using uTorrent and has received an auto update?

If not I'll be staying on Mojave for a while more.

Alternatively what's a good torrent client? I hear Transmission, Folx and Deluge being bandied about but have yet to try them.

Thanks

There is a posting on their blog about it. Several folks say moving to the web version is not going to be easy and several are jumping ship to alternatives. I am testing qbittorrent myself.

I'm using Transmission but I beg to differ regarding GUI, I don't really like it. Maybe I'm used to uTorrent too much ?

I did a lot of research on this topic but it was very hard to find conclusive answers. However, it looks like uTorrent, thankfully, will not auto-update. One person said that you will receive a message asking if you want to update. If you answer no, nothing changes. I'm on High Sierra and have not seen that question pop up yet nor has there been an auto-update. So all is good. I tried the new web version on another Mac, and if you're a power user, it's completely unusable. I'm staying on High Sierra for now but will eventually move to qBittorrent, which I'm using successfully on another Mac. It's definitely better than uTorrent.

I could see that. Only reason why switched to Transmission was because of the 64 bit issue. The UI seems more Mac like in Transmission. There's nothing wrong with uTorrent other than their 64 bit support.

Transmission is terribly slow, only qtorrent can reach the speed of utorrent in my experience. the only downside is the UI.

I have tried Folx. It seems OK for now.

The user interface takes some getting used to.

If it doesn't work out, I'll try Transmission.

Thanks

What's the difference with the original uTorrent?

I re-installed the original version and got this message:

It launches in your web browser.

The interface is also different.

It looks a lot like Folx.

Not sure I like it. I may as well use Folx.

I tried updating to uTorrent Web but the installer just gave me a white screen. I gave up and went to bed. The next day I downloaded it again and found it was a different build number. This one installed and I tried the new web interface but didn't like it. The feature set was so poor and it constantly tried to load the video I was downloading into the built in video player (which is huge) and above the downloads themselves. It kept spinning because the file hadn't downloaded and I couldn't find how to close it.

In the end I uninstalled it and I am using Transmission again after a break of several years. uTorrent really shot themselves in the foot with this. They've had several months warning that the change to 64bit was happening. I can't believe it was beyond them to produce a 64bit version.
