Value of my Mac Pro

I've run into some sudden financial hardship and may have to sell my Mac Pro to make it through :( It isn't for certain yet, but I'm wanting to get a sense of what I would be able to get by selling it. The specs are as follows:

2008 Mac Pro
2x 2.8Ghz quad core Xeon (octocore)
12GB RAM (4x1GB, 2x4GB)
4TB HDDs (2x1TB Seagate Barracuda, 1x2TB WD Caviar Black)
12x Blue-ray writer
Dell 3007WFPHC 30" Display
ATI Radeon HD 2600

Also, does anyone have any ideas of the best place to sell such an item? I don't have any eBay feedback, so it would be unlikely I could sell it that way... I was thinking of just putting it up on my local Craigslist and UsedEverywhere sites and hoping for a local buyer. It will be a sad day if I have to do this, but my business comes first (so does food!) :(
 
I will say craigslist list is the way to go. As far as the vale go to ebay and in advance search you can look at completed auctions that should give you a good idea.

mac2sell can you give you a general idea, although it's not ideal since you can't enter 10GB or more of memory nor nonstandard items nor peripherals. But it at least gives you something to start with. You could look at ebay for prices, and then price lower since you won't have ebay or pay pal fees. The price you get could vary quite a bit though just depending on your region.
 
Sorry about the bad news, I hope you get past it soon.

In your shoes I would probably sell on Craigslist. Be careful about the transaction and assume you might be meeting someone with bad intention. Bring a friend or two and meet in public.
 
built to last. remember first G5.s. throttlin->pci express:nothrottling at all. heavy load. makes present Mac Pro act some throttling. don't sell too soon.

Sorry you are going thru hardship.. Goes to show you the market is still bad.. Your system alone due to the memory and hard drives alone would push the price up to maybe 1500-2000.00 - the 2008 Mac Pros are still fetching a nice price due to EFI 64 and being able to run just as fast as the current stuff.. plus the upgrade path is there w/ video cards.

Thanks everyone for your commiserations. Most of my customers are from the States and we all know what's going on with the economy there. Frustratingly the straw that broke the camel's back is actually the extra taxes I have to pay for last year, despite the fact that I earned the equivalent of less than minimum wage :mad:

$1500 to $2000 seems low, as I'm including the 30" display, and the machines are more expensive here in Canada to boot. I was thinking about $3000 CAD as a starting point.

Ow. The straw being the taxes makes it suck even worse. Have you considered selling the monitor separately? You'll find many people who are looking for either the system or a monitor but often not both.

The MacPro less the Monitor is probably worth about $1900. I sold a similar 2008 last week for $that much on CL. There was little to no traction trying to sell it for more. Your monitor is selling as a "buy it now" on ebay for $549. You could try to sell both together and get $2400 or so on CL. I made the sale more attractive by offering a 3 day return with a 10% restocking fee and I also accepted PayPal. Most people these days don't have access to $2400 in cash.

You could try the ebay route... The prices on Ebay will go a little higher, but you give Ebay $% and PayPay $%.

If you need to sell it now... Undercut the local competition. Loosing a couple hundred is better than not having access to the full amount of $$$. Best Luck!

Usually the taxes aren't bad, and we get big bonuses such as free healthcare plus a lot of prescription drugs for free or for cheap, but sometimes the government does try and screw you over, especially when you're a small business. I'm self-employed and my wife has a regular job; rather than apply my income to my own taxes, which would have meant I'd have to pay no taxes, other than the pension plan, as my net income's too low (my business is in its infancy), they split my income between my wife and I, meaning she had to pay gobs of taxes on the "extra" income :mad:

Thanks for all the feedback guys - luckily it looks like I'm going to be able to extend my line of credit, so I might be able to make it to my busy season without selling my MP. I'm going to be very happy if I can pull it off, as sharing my wife's G4 eMac would have been quite a pain :p
