Hi,

I have an Aluminum iMac7, 1. I believe I bought it in 2008. Last week the hard drive died. On top of that the optical drive is also dead. Right now (as strange as it sounds) I'm running the thing off of my iomega 1TB external drive. I installed leopard via an external disc drive.

I'm contemplating trying to sell it, since I've been doing the majority of my computing on my macbook anyway. I was wondering however if there would even be a market for an iMac with a bad hard and optical drive, and if so how much could I possibly get for it? Cosmetically it looks great and is currently running fine off of an external drive. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Phil

I bought a used 24" with the ATI 2600 for $639.

There are 20" versions at Cowboom for $550 or so.

Just replace your hard drive and optical drive. It's rather simple and will significantly increase the value. Instructions are on the web and this forum.

Cheers,

Hi. Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it. I was toying with the idea of selling it "as is", but I think you're wise in advising me to do the repairs first. I have a feeling I wouldn't get much with the broken drives. Thanks again!:)
