value of used D70 with extras

It really depends on those lenses. What model, how old, what condition? The d70 body is almost worthless (can sell for $300 range) but if those are newer, good condition lenses then that is a good deal.

The d70 is a solid camera. I learned to shoot on mine many years ago. The d70s is also a nice upgrade; my only real beef was the tiny LCD.

Digital bodies do not hold value. This makes them great for buyers but not if you are a seller. I guess you know that. The better Nikon lenses hold value but third party lenses do not. You are looking at a couple of mid-range Nikon lenses in the "kit lens" catogory that I would think would sell at 60% of new price. The camera sells at about 1/2 new price. Used Sigma, filters and memory sells cheap. The filters could be junk or somewhat valuable depending on brand and model.

Add it up and you have a fair deal. Not great but fair.

Actually I'd much rather have this kit you are buying than a brand new D40 outfit. I have the 18-70. I much prefer it to the 18-55 because the filter ring does not rotate and it is slightly faster nd I do use the few extra mm of "reach". The 300mm is an f/5.6 zoom that is longer and slower than most people need.

BTW the Sigma lens is NOT a macro lens. It is a wide range zoom that has a close focus setting.

So much depends on the quality/state of those lenses, and also the quality/state AND BRAND of the filters you mention (I suspect they're probably inexpensive filters since no brand name is mentioned). Also, it depends on what your shooting habits are. If you don't ever use polarizers and neutral density filters, you're not really getting the extra value you might first think. Same argument on the Sigma lens (which apparently is not a true macro) - if you're not shooting macro-type shots, having that lens is of no value to you.

If everything is in good shape (and you'd use it all), then I'd say the price is reasonable - I'm certainly not an expert though. The 18-70 is a $320 lens new. The 70-300 is decent, but not worth as much anymore since Nikon has a newer VR version - if you don't use a tripod it's going to limit how much you use that lens.

Great Comment and exactly what I was looking for. The D40 and D80 new are some of the cameras I was comparing some used models with.

I rarely if ever used the 70-300 ED with a tripod, no problem.

All depends on how many shutter actuations the camera has. According to Nikon it has a shutter life of 75000 actuations. So guage accordingly, make sure before you buy you know how long a lofe it has left.

BTW I just sold my D70 with a 512mb memory card, and the 70-300 G lens for $400+ shipping. It had 35000 shutter actuations.

You do have the right idea though it looks like a good kit all depends on the camera. I loved it, I just can't work with the small lcd screen.

That's a great deal, but only b/c of the lenses.

You know, a couple people have said that in this thread; but if you look on, say, B&H's site for a used D70 you might be surprised what they're asking.

I assume that's new (@ $450)... which is an OK deal, but it's also B&H…

And if you follow the link to it's replacement, it says that the D70 was replaced by the D40x–what!?! The D80!

It's the same over at KEH (if you look at the bodies rated "Like New"). You have to scroll down a bit to find "body only".

I don't believe the D70 was ever $450 new, even after the introduction of newer models.

I think your stuff is worth $650-700:

$250 for the camera
$150 for the 18-70 mm lens
$200 for teh 70-300 mm ED lens
$50-100 for everything else, because I can't be bothered to put an arbitrary value on it.

The body is worth at least $350 if it's good, with accessories and box, not $250.
