The Source engine isn't the only middleware needed to develop Valve's games. I'm pretty sure HL2, and Portal both use the Havok physics engine. I'd assume L4D does as well. I can only find one article from 2006 announcing that Blizzard had licensed it for Mac but no others. Can anyone name any other games for Mac that use Havok? Mac gaming still has a long ways to go.

Havok isn't really an engine on its own, it needs another regular game engine to work, such as Naughty Dog uses Havok physics in their Naughty Dog Game Engine 2.0

Outstanding question. Havok, due to exorbitant licensing fees was a deal breaker for Mac games for quite a while. At one point, if you made a PC game and licensed Havok and then decided to port it to the Mac, my understanding is that the Havok would require a second extremely expensive license. But I remember reading about Havok competition. Maybe the physics engine licensing landscape has changed significantly.

This is a solved problem on then Source engine. Valve licensed Havok's source code long ago, and in fact it's running on the Linux-based game servers as well as in the new Source on Mac. So, it just works.

I believe Second Life uses Havok as well, and they have native clients for Mac, Linux, and Windows.
