Since updating to 12.4 I’ve 2 distinct issues rear their ugly heads.

1. My external TB device, an owc Ministack STX will no longer sleep unless my Mac Studio is shutdown. Previously, it would sleep the fans when idle or when the Studio want to sleep. Now it spins the fan all the time. I suspect this is an attempt by Apple to address some of the TB bugs in Monterey (i.e. the "disk not ejected properly" bugs) but it's made my TB stuff unusable as it's a fairly loud fan. Currently working with OWC Helpdesk to address this but I think it's Apple at fault.

2. World of Warcraft is unplayable with a really odd bug. Randomly when playing but usually after only a few minutes, the screen will freeze. The game keeps playing and responding to controls but thew screen is totally frozen. Switching the screen off and on again will usually fix it temporarily - or unplugging and replugging the cable. It makes the game totally unplayable. Tried with various screens, TB and HDMI and they are all the same. Blizzard being a but useless here and pushing blame onto Apple without investigating so not sure who is at fault. I suspect it's Apple though. Again.

Seriously unimpressed with Monterey, the features over Big Sur aren't compelling and the instability and bug-ridden nature of the OS is worrying. I only use it because the Studio won't run anything older. Almost tempted to go back to my old MacPro 5,1. Slower yes, but way more stable.

It's really up to OWC to test their stuff with beta software, and to report bugs or update their software if Apple changes something. This is why I normally wait a couple of days to a couple of weeks before doing an update. In some cases, I'll install it on an external SSD to test out for a couple of days before upgrading.

I would agree with your comments on Monterey though. I am running two systems on Big Sur and see no reason to upgrade to Monterey. Big Sur isn't necessarily completely safe, though, because they've backported some of the bugs from Monterey.

I upgraded to 12.4.1 on Monday and it's running fine for me. I haven't used it with external monitors or docks though. It does seem to grab RAM more quickly.

Unless there is a major bug in the current version that’s resolved by an update, I agree it’s best to wait before updating.

macOS 12.4 includes a new version of Safari, and I am waiting to update since I work with a few web-based apps that could be affected if there’s a conflict with the update.

Thanks to OP, we know some OWC products and WoW aren’t compatible with 12.4. Hopefully Apple or the third parties address it soon.

According to reports on the WOW forums, after a long chat with apple support, it appears that the issues are fixed by enabling vsynch. It seems that there’s an issue in (I guess) the window server that causes some apps to lose synch with the screen.
