<3 Ventrilo but I've noticed there is a crackling sound when people talk too loud (i.e laugh) Is this an issue for anyone else? I was thinking it's a cheap sound card but I dunno what they even put in the MBPs. What'cha guys think?

Ventrilo crackling sounds on inbound audio?

I'm currently shouting at my MacBook Pro and don't hear any crackling 
Seriously though - is it crackling or distortion? I use external speakers (via optical though) but when I did connect them by analogue I'd bring down the volume of the output from my Mac and let the speakers do the amplifying.
The built in speakers are pretty gash, I don't use them at all.
