Ventura problems (stability)

Hello!

I use latest Ventura in my M1 Mac Mini
13.3.1 (a) (22E772610a)

Mac is online 24/7, but I need restart it every 3-4 days.

- Safari not load open anything. Other browsers work ok
- everything freeze, first app start to slow down and then whole system is freeze. I need to force restart my Mac (power button)
- Facetime <-> iPhone came work sometimes.. now it says "restart your Mac to solve problems", because FaceTime is black if iPhone is connected. It only work when I use USB-C cable.

I already install "clean" Ventura installation -> still same problems.

Is this just me who has these problems? Ventura is not very stable..

Check your Activity Monitor. Is there a small application or process that is consuming an excessive amount of RAM?

I was also experiencing serious crashes about once a month on my Apple silicon laptop. The entire system becomes unresponsive to mouse clicks, with noticeable fans noice. In such cases, I have to force restart my Mac.

This happened in early days of Ventura for me. Recent versions (in the past 3 months) seem to be working fine.

I check memory usage -> Ok
and CPU usage -> OK

Safari is first, when I notice this problem.
If you have open tabs they work ok, but if you open new tab it is not open any url/site..

Then every app one by one start to die/freeze.

I kill all open apps and windows server -> not help
Then all goes "not responding" and I have force restart by pressing power button.

Does anyone else here use Adguard? You could try removing/disabling that as a test, but of course you'll then get all the ads.

I don't use any of these, but whenever things go wrong on my friends' laptops the first thing I look at is whether they're running any virus checkers, ad blockers, network monitors etc. as they sometimes clog up memory after a while.

I still have issues.. Now EtreCheck says performance is GOOD??
But I notice lots of network activity? I disable ethernet and programs start response again (ethernet and wifi are enabled/connected same time)??

So can that be network adapter related problem/conflict ?

Now I use only wifi and no problems in two days.

A faulty external NIC sounds really plausible actually. In that case, phew. Problem solved.

Also sounds similar to my friend's Macbook that turned out to have a broken Media Engine, aka the part of the M1 that decodes and encodes common video codecs used by apps like facetime and web browsers. Typically it would work at first and then when encountering something it would break all apps that used hardware decoding.

Not sure how common that is (probably not very) but in such a case you wouldn't be able to solve it any other way than getting a replacement unit.

If you're sure it worked well in Monterey or Big Sur, I suggest you downgrade the OS (backup all personal data) and test that theory out first.

I think problems starts in Ventura and latest updates get that problem much worse...
Maybe I wait and update Sonoma and look how that work..

New information...
It is network/backup related problem.
- why I see heavy network usage -> Time Machine start to backup
- Computer is unresponsive when Time Machine create backup in my NAS (truenas)
- Kill all network connections wait few minutes -> backup stopped and everything is ok again.

It sees to be problem only when it backup in NAS (SMB share)
AirPort Time Capsule -> no problems

And again..
Time Machine preparing/connecting NAS and Mac freeze again.. everything die slowly.
I stop backup and now all is ok.. So I think I finally found the issue 💪💪
