I went to verify my time machine backup, but when I press the option key, "Verify Backup" is there, but it is greyed out. Is this a known problem on Big Sur? Any work around?

This is on a M1 MacMini with a Samsung T5 SSD.

Thanks.

I just checked on Big Sur (Intel MBP) and it is greyed out for me also. I have encryption turned on for the TM disk. I wonder if that is the issue?

Also on an M1, BS 11.2, backup disk is a WD Hard drive, not SSD - TM disk is not encrypted

Option is greyed out for me

Update

I turned off time machine for the disk, rebooted so it wouldn't show up a time machine disk, ran Disk Utility and it failed again. No idea if it is a disk issue or an incompatibility with my M1 MacMini.

I may try erasing it and testing again. If that doesn't help, I will contact Samsung.

In the mean time, I got a WD "My Passport Ultra for Mac" disk for a backup disk. Time Machine is starting it's first backup on that now.
