Other Verizon and early iphone upgrade ?

i want to get the max but verizon is telling me the early upgrade (paying off half the X i have now) can only be done through verizon - cannot be done at the apple store.

verizon does not have any stock where as my local apple store has plenty

my question is has anyone ran into this - early upgrade can not be done at apple ?

You’re stuck cause it’s 2 separate vendors. But I have an idea. Try paying of the half value give it back and do a “bring you’re own device” instead of getting another one (another upgrade) and go to apple and start over with apple.

Personally I think dealing with Verizon is easier for the phone leasing and their insurance is better 6.75 per month (for damage, loss theft) with 200 deductible apple now does loss and theft but the plan is too expensive and it’s 269 deductible

How long is the wait for an XS max for Verizon?

I’m curious how this will play out. Good luck

You usually order from Verizon?

I have a XS Max I ordered through Apple and then decided I would return it and do the BOGO with Verizon... I've had nothing but trouble. Apple pay didn't go through when I originally ordered, so I got a notice to update my CC so I could be charged.. I've talked to 3 different people about this - first just said I needed to 'authorize' the card, second asked me over the phone for my card info and said I was good.. here we are 4? days later, no charge.. I contacted verizon again yesterday because I have 4 different order numbers on my account with an XS Max order (this occurred after talking to the 2nd rep that I gave my CC to). This 3rd person tried to assure me that I only have 1 order and everything looked in order.

If they don't charge until they ship the device, how would they have known that my card wasn't valid unless they were trying to charge me to ship it? So, why has it been days with no update?

I was given an Oct 3 date, but I'm not sure I'm ever going to get the device as it all seems suspicious.

i have an 8 plus also...you mean pay the x half off let the upgrade sit there and use my 8plus ?

XS max is mid october with verizon but meanwhile my apple store has them every day since launch

im kinda curious what happens if i pay the half off....it will show i can upgrade then go on the apple app and use my verizon upgrade what would happen..i just think verizon telling me it can only be done through them sounds like bs. :)

Call apple and ask! Part of me thinks that Verizon would want to ensure they got their money, but their system is integrated with apple some how... Have you tried placing an order on your line through apple's mobile app? Does it prevent you from upgrading?

Always. I saw in the news all the crazy people camping out for the apple store. I went to the Verizon store once like 4am (they opened at 7) sat in my car until a few people actually went outside then I joined them I was working overnights that time so my body was tuned to be up and it was my day off on Friday’s. Now I just pre order and it comes on release day by fed ex. I’ve been doing it this way for the past 3 times I got my XS on 9/21

I think they are telling you the truth. Cause the lease payments are going to Verizon not apple.

Ask if they will take you’re X back and use you’re 8plus until you go to apple for the XS max.

But.....for the reasons I said for insurance etc. it was nuts to buy the policy especially I WILL upgrade every year now with the lease program cause you will have to pay I think it was 200 or 300 for the apple care (then still have to pay the deductible either apple 269 or Verizon 200) alone when 6.75x12 months for Verizon coverage do the math just to be covered. SO I WOULD NOT GO WITH APPLE b/c of this and the extra store traffic I went to pick up a paid for Apple TV and I was there for over 20 mins they’re always crowded.

I would just stick with Verizon wait the couple of weeks and give the X back when the XS max comes in and sell the 8plus on swappa or do whatever with it

yes i may do this but the reason i was wanting to use apple is the 8plus i can just trade in take it off the cost of the max then my leasing with verizon is actually cheaper per month but i may just do it all through verizon...the other way seems like a headache lol

i have a verizon authorized retailer in my area also that i have used in the past....they usually get way more stock than corp stores so i may check with them this afternoon...

im getting ready to travel for work thats why i was wanting it today or tomorrow ..

Wait a minute. I actually did not read this wrong. That rep lied to you. You can handle early upgrades at any retailer that’s an authorized Verizon reseller. I would recommend checking stock at your local Best Buy stores. They can handle this for you no problem.

My local Best Buy has a few of them in stock and I called them because I am in the same predictament as you. I am on the annual upgrade program. They said they have an authorized Verizon rep there that can handle everything for me. That includes paying off the remainder of the balance either to zero or to 50%, trading in my phone and selling me the iPhone Xs Max.

totally forgot about checking BB stock...i was originally wanting to do it through the apple store though...but since the rep told me no it cannot be handled through the apple store itself...

called my local auth retailer they have one in stock but i will check best buy (its closer)

Definitely do that. The other place to check is Target. Last year, Target was one of the last retailers that had stock of the iPhone X.

If you bought at Verizon you need to go thru them unless you pay it off and go wherever you want.
 
I went through the same thing and was bummed I couldn’t go through the apple store since they seemed to be the only ones with some in stock. But I kept checking stock for a couple days early in the morning and was able to catch them when they just restocked and got one with next day shipping. Here I am typing this with my new xs max 256gb
