Carrier Verizon is Despicable

I confirmed with them twice that I would be able to preorder the new iPhone's, and they would honor the traditional upgrade pricing.

I wake up today and only find two options, either device pmt plan or pay full retail.

I call in and they tell me, "we have moved away from the 2 year contracts and changed to the device payment plan"

Terrible. Moving all 6 iPhone lines away from them.

Before moving into the auto industry, wouldn't it be great if Apple would disrupt and take over wireless.

Order them on Verizon.com or apple.com it will allow you to choose 2 year contracts

This. I don't know if they automatically offer a contract now. I know they didn't for me. Also, when you call Verizon and ask about an upgrade date, make damn sure it is reflected on the site as well. The whole word is their bond thing does nothing when you're trying to order online at 3 am.

Your options when you move to another carrier will likely be the same.

Why would you want a 2 year contract in the first place? That seems like a horrible idea. I was thinking the same, I was looking to buy the iPhone 7+ black 128gb under contract at $419 but it raises your bill $20/month for 2 years which is $480, total price is $899 and you don't have the option to upgrade after 1 year like installments....

How does it add $20 per month for 2 years? It doesn't do this to me. It's a contract at the current plan that I am on with is unlimited data and a loyalty legacy plan totaling $45 per month before taxes on VZW.

Usually if your not under contract, line access is $20, under a new 2 year contract they bump that up to $40, so they can recover from selling you an iPhone at a discounted price. With you, you might be grandfathered into the old 2 year contract.

I actually moved from the loyalty plan ($60 a month for 2gb) this morning. With trading in my 6, going to device payment and switching to the Small plan ($55) my monthly bill will be slightly lower thanks to the insane $650 trade offer credit. And I have no contract.

"Pay less" is relative... Your paying less now for a phone, but if your under their "new plan" your going to be paying an extra $20 for line access under new contract.... Which is basically just paying payments on your phone through line access....

Verizon does in fact offer the 2 year contract still, as long as you're a current customer. They just won't tell you that willingly because they want you on the Edge program.

There's an ever present trend in these forums that whatever is true for me, anecdotally, must absolutely be true for everyone. (E.g. "I had one bad experience with one person, so the whole company sucks.")

These replies aren't at all surprising. I do my due diligence while keeping an open mind, but most of the time, I do what I know is true/best for my family.

Yeah I should have been under the loyalty plan but for some reason it never rolled in and I started getting charged an extra $20 when the whole contract BS rolled in until I was out of contract. Then when I renewed I never even knew about the loyalty from beforehand.

All our carriers are despicable; they give no loyalty bonus to us, and therefore they get no loyalty from us. You should go where you get the most for your money. None of them are doing you any favor for sticking with them.

Exactly this^^, only issue with that is where I live I don't really have a choice, it's pretty much Verizon or nothing. Sprint sucks in my area, T-mobile is non-existent since there is zero service up here with T-mobile. The only real options are AT&T and Verizon but yet they are competitively prices so might as well go for the better service. One thing that has really been grinding my gears about Verizon though, is that in my area they shut down one of the towers and its been really messing with my service.

You probably renewed your payments for another 24 months, read the fine print. Or you had a phone that was paid off and you traded it in for "free" plus signed another 2 year contract. I'm guessing one of those two...

Nope, none of the above. My 6S was bought outright last year and there is no 2 year contract. The rep told me that I am able to upgrade next year when the new iphone comes out and I owe nothing on the 7 when I do the trade in.
