Hey all,

I was first in line today at my local Apple Store for the iPhone 3G. I am switching from Verizon to AT&T, so I brought in all my information and gave it to them to switch. That was about 17 hours ago. Currently, my number is not yet ported (or is it partially ported?) All incoming calls are routed to the Verizon phone, I can place outgoing calls from either, and texts are mixed. Texts from AT&T people show up on the iPhone, but all other ones show up on my Verizon phone. Is this normal? How long will this process take to complete?

Thanks in advance

This is perfectly normal. I bought an original iPhone in December and the number porting from Verizion to AT&T took about 2 hours to fully complete. Due to the "demand" yesterday, it will take your number a little longer to complete. I would think that by today it would be fully ported.

Question, for Verizon customers who switched to AT&T, what is this PIN or password they talk about needing when porting? Is that our online account password or our voicemail PIN?

Hi, There is generally no pin or password (its optional) that is used by verizon customers. They just ask you last 4 of ssn.

It applies to some other carriers where you have to provide a PIN/password to access customer service via phone. thx

I got the phone at 8:30am yesterday and port was due to complete at 2:30pm (per ATT rep).

However, until about 5:00pm calls still went to Verizon phone and I had to call ATT(611) again...got connected with their port-status department and the rep completed the step 'manually'.

I just called AT&T at 1-800-888-7600. I spoke to a representative who took care of the whole issue in under 15 minutes, it all works now! I recommend anyone having this problem contacts AT&T, it expedites the process tremendously.

Ports generally can take up to 2 hours but you have to keep in mind yesterday all the people that were porting numbers. I am sure AT&T gained a lot of new customers yesterday due to the iPhone. The store I was at the majority if people were doing new activations.

I went to the local Mac store Friday at 10:00 and got 4 iPhones for myself and 3 other coworkers. The first number we transfered swapped immediately (Except for the fact that it took another hour and a half before we could unlock it through iTunes).

One of the numbers we got was completely brand new so that one obviously was not an issue.

The fourth number was fully operational by 11:45 once we were able to unlock it through iTunes, which again took some time.

My phone was the second number we switched. It is now 11:56 on Sunday night and I still am not getting calls in to the iPhone, they all go to my Verizon phone.

I went to the local AT&T store twice. On Friday the clerk told me it was totally normal and to wait 24 hours and it will have cleared up. So I did just that. I went back to the AT&T store again on Saturday at 11:30 (exactly 24 hours since the number was ported). This clerk told me that it would not be until Monday.

I am going to try giving them a call though and hopefully that will help expedite things as legolover64 stated and will let you know how that goes...s
