So I was gearing up to buy the iphone X. Had the Apple Store app ready on my phone and windows open on my computer for the Apple Store and for Verizon. At 2:50ET (11:50PT) I started refreshing just for the hell of it and Verizon was already selling! Not even sure when they first started because I only refreshed at 2:50 and it came up right away. And apparently I made my purchase with no problems. Anyone else see or hear anything about this?

Ordered mine around 2:54ET from Verizon's website.
I saw that Verizon was selling before 3 as well....I waited for Apple App....but that did not come back until about 3:08 for me...and I could not get it to go through...I rushed back to Verizon...I have an account...and I was able to still order a Silver/256 at full price for Nov 3 deliver. I guess it doesnt really matter where its purchased from...Apple or Verizon...I can buy AppleCAre after as well. :) But annoying how Apple app did not come up until too late.

and Apple probably finds it annoying that the carriers jumped the gun

I posted here when I ordered mine to make sure all the VZW people here knew to rush there.

Yes, I noticed the website countdown was 5-6 minuets shorter than the app and preorders went live at 2:54 eastern.

Me too by 5 minutes. I wasn't able to get into the Apple site until after 3:10 and it wouldn't let me go through a Verizon.
