Okay, so this is getting ridiculous. I bought the new iPad Pro with cellular from the Apple site. I brought it in to a Verizon store and they couldn't figure out how to activate it. Then I spent over an hour across two phone calls with Verizon to finally get it on 4G -- but no 5G. Then, I couldn't figure out where in the hell they had their $200 rebate offer on their site. I had to go here to get that info. I applied for the rebate as required. A few weeks later -- today -- I get a notice from them saying the unit is ineligible for the rebate.

There's some serious shenanigans going on here for this. It almost seems that Verizon is purposely making it difficult to find out how to get the rebate, then pulling some nonsense to avoid having to pay the rebate out. How is Apple okay with this? It amounts to false advertising on their own site.

There's a lot of enterprising young lawyers out there who I have to think are noticing this, too. I'm thinking I'll see some notice next year for a class action against Verizon, followed by a check for $2.00 as my share of the settlement -- discounted from the $200.00 I was supposed to get.

What the hell?

I guess I'm an old fart but I've been screwed once too many times by these companies to even give a crap about "discounts" anymore. It's more work and time to deal with those things than it is just to pay the regular price. Now, I always ignore those things.

As a long time Verizon customer - I wish you luck. I quit going to Verizon stores because I was getting screamed at (and told I was stupid) for not buying their protection plans. Haven't set foot in a Verizon store since (iPhone 6+ days) - nor will I ever again. I like their network, but that's it.

Relatives of mine fell for the "buy one get one free" crap last year. They get a "bill credit" that amounts to not even HALF of their monthly payment for the second phone.... How the hell that is "buy one get one free" I'll never know. They spent countless days complaining with Verizon CS and only got a $40 bill credit as a "sorry" ...

What was Verizon’s rationale?

It’s not just Verizon. All the cellular providers pull shady stuff. My wife is an AT&T rep and tells me all the time she is pressured by her bosses to pull shady crap. Just make sure you have it in writing before proceeding. And make sure it’s to your liking.

If all else fails file a complaint with the BBB. I did that with shenanigans AT&T tried to pull with me, ended up getting called from their corporate office and received months of free service, a truly free (no bill credit) phone, and released from my contract so I could go to Verizon.

I also had issues with Verizon activating my 12.9 iPad Pro. They said one of my ID numbers did not match any in the database. It took quite some time but they activated me by putting in a SIM card in rather than using the esim.

As for the rebate, I had the same issue. Apple and Verizon kept bouncing me back and forth, but eventually I was able to get someone on the phone at Verizon that was able to get it approved for me. Keep trying.

When I first went to the Verizon store to activate, the associate told me to use a code on the rebate site. I didn't realize Apple's instructions tell you to use a notification in the Verizon app, which I'm not sure I ever got. Maybe that's related to my activation issues. Anyway, I submitted using the UNLOCKEDIPAD200 code, and it was also rejected. Both Apple and Verizon chat supports were unhelpful. Eventually, I got someone on the phone at Verizon that was able to hear me out that I was eligible and helped get it corrected.

Be patient and persistent. Also, a kind and humble attitude with customer service reps goes a long ways. Good luck!

I had to call T-Mobile for them to give me the rebate - they also said my device was not eligible by filling out the form

The buy one get one free promo is specific. I’ve used it before, the rules are quite clear, free for devices up to $999, pay the difference if you want something that is more. No big deal, bill credits over 24 months seems fair, wouldn’t expect VZ to just give me a $1000 phone and risk me jumping ship?
