Versions, duplicate and restore condition of app?

When is apple going to get their heads out of their behinds and realise these should be optional on both a per app and system wide choice. And bring back save as too as an option. And as far as restoring the condition of the app, make that optional too, if people want to start with a clean slate let them, of they want to keep the condition, they ll keep the app open too. Quitting an app gives you a quick way to get rid of all the clutter within it and open it clean. Numerous times at work I have dreaded opening up an app and having it restored to say a spreadsheet sheet with my home expenses next to the office work I d been doing. Same with recent files in app exposé, one gesture and the prying head sees your whole history of files in a long sequence.

What are they smoking these days that they think whatever crap they come up with that's supposed to "enable" the user and simplify things but instead creates havoc for so many users we have to suffer through?

Save tons of redundant versions data on files you couldnt care less to version them? Is that their way of forcing us to upgrade to higher storage future macs?

Open a file, click duplicate, wait for it to open a copy then click save. In what warped mind this is better than save as?

I am so dissaponted that in no they still haven't gotten a clue how much these things are effing up people's daily workflows to make them optional.

is it not enough that we have to mandatorily suffer through the mess that is mission control?

Had Steve been up to his wits in this last year to actually bother with os x and not the new iPhone, and had to do three movements instead of one to save a file as something, he would have just barged in and told them change this crap, in his usual upfront way.

I one understand why Bertrand Serlet quit the os x team, and with what I am seeing I think Creg Federichi lacks basic common sense to head os x, the guy is inept, he's managed to turn one of the simplest, intuitive os's with easy and functional work flows into a sordid mess. Who's going to fire that guy?

I am not seeing much change for the better in mountain lion either and I am getting so dissapointed, but woooo hoooo I am going to have a reminders app, what's sad joke...

Whilst this is a workaround: Force Quiting an Application, Opt+Cmd+Q, Will prompt you to Restore or Discard previously open windows when the Application next relaunches.

'Tonnes of redundant versions data' is delta, unlike Time Machine data, and keeps record only of what has changed and not several copies of almost identical content. Very little space is used.

Shift-Cmd-S, once "Save As" now instigates the File>Duplicate feature in the current DP 2 of Mountain Lion - and takes less than a second even for several hundred megabyte files to duplicate the file as this process is carried out in the background. It seems that Versions data is borrowed to prevent corruption to the original document when changes are being made to the new copy before the entire duplication process is over (for large files). File>Duplicate and Shift-Cmd-S now also highlight the Title Bar's Filename so that the new document's name can be modified without first moving the mouse cursor. It may be different but it is not inherently worse than 'Save As'.

Or, they could just bring back save as like OP suggests. Read you post of a paragraph, still don't get it. This, by the way is why I am still on SL. They do have their heads up their ass's. Also holding off on new hardware as well.

No they are conforming to the masses that love iOS and there are the few who think there ranting is going to get them anywhere. A windows machine which is obviously better compared to OS Xs versions MC and resume feature is waiting for you at your local electronics store. Apple isn't doing something that isn't working hence there mind blowing revenue stream.

Read you post of a paragraph, still don't get it. This, by the way is why I am still on SL.

Here's a brief screen recording I made demoing the Duplicate feature's speed (granted, on a small-ish 7.4 MB file) and ability to rename the new document from "[previous name] copy" with no effort other than typing the new name.
The only functionality lost is choosing a new location for the new copy, although it could be argued that this is a timesaving feature as often both copies are within the same folder, at least in my experience. Cmd+S after Duplication offers the user a chance to move the newly created file to a location of their choice.

I don't understand the backlash. I love Versions, Resume, and Auto-Save. It takes awhile to understand it but but once you do it made me MORE productive.

The backlash is because if you favor any of Lions features you are accused of being an iToy user therefore making you a nonproductive computer user. Which also means you don't know your ass from your elbow. Like I was told in a similar thread for defending Lions features.
