Only the first generation (2015) iPad Pro 12.9" does not have promotion / truetone screen. Looks like you are correct, although the 9.7 has True Tone plus 120Hz refresh rate. Guess the only part it’s really missing is variable refresh rates for 24p video and the like introduces with promotion.Actually the 9.7” pro doesn’t have promotion
