Most times I open Finder I get this vertical line on the right:

Does anyone know how I can stop this from appearing? I can move it to the right hand side so it disappear but when I open a Finder window again, it comes back.

Thanks

It is the preview option, if you click on an object then you see the details on the right side of the line.
Go to View in the Finder menu, there you have an option to switch it off. I have OS X in Dutch, so I don't know the precise name of that option in English. Or the key combination ⇧⌘P works also to switch it on/off.
