Just noticed a very faint electronic noise coming from the SSD in my 2015 15in rMBP. I only noticed it last night while working in a quite room, and don't recall ever hearing it before having had this laptop since 2015, but then I've mostly used the machine while outside of my home. This is what it sounds like:

Not loud but noticeable from a normal sitting distance. Just wondering if this is indeed normal behavior like the video claims? Anyone else's machines making this noise?

Thanks!

Ok. So def seems like a new issue then. I haven't really noticed any noise from my rMBP over the years either, and thought maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention. I found this thread earlier, looks like what I'm experiencing isn't quite isolated: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6497730

Will take the machine in for a check up.

Can you hear it just working away at normal ear distance from the system? Or is this something where you have to put your ear next to the system?

FWIW, I can sometimes hear the GTX 1070 GPU card in my Window's deskside machine from 3 feet away, even though it is under my desk.

Not loud at all but definitely noticeable at normal operating distance in a quiet room. I was very worried upon hearing it last night, since this is my work machine and my livelihood literally depends on it. Which is what set me on a Googling journey since last night. Here's some more threads I've found since:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macbook-pro-retina-ssd-noise.1692117/

Sound is more obvious when writting and reading to the SSD (tried the Blackmagic disk test to confirm earlier). Some people claim this is normal?

My 2015 is the base model with only the iGPU (paranoid about Apple discrete graphics after the 2010/2011 fiasco), so in theory it shouldn't have any noise other than fan noise.

Edit: I don't want to be too paranoid so I'm here to try to find out if this kind of sound is normal for SSDs, hoping maybe mine has just gotten louder over the years.

not a new issue. All of the new SSD drives make noise, but not everyone can hear it. You have to put your ear on the laptop close to the drive to hear it during reading and writing.
