VERY IMPRESSED with the GPS accuracy!

Google shows three very large concrete planters in my driveway when I look at their satellite image of my house. I can walk outside with my iPad and it will show my location so accurately that it can show me which of the three planters I am standing in front of.

Being a person who depends on GPS for navigation while offshore, it never fails to amaze me and I find that even the iPad GPS is quite accurate.

what is your P-DOP value? are you able to tell with any apps? i would assume they are able to have a very large gps antenna inside so it should be good

Well ifixit said it's a different gps chip, If it's the same size or smaller they better put it in the next iPhone come June.

Add me to the "impressed" list. I went for a drive yeaterday with my 3GS and iPad sitting side-by-side running Navigon. iPad was definitely smoother/better at keeping tabs on my position. Now I wish for Navigon and hurry up with the update as the maps are definintely grainy in 2x mode.

Hmmm, mine is giving me problems. When I have my iPad 3G in wifi only mode it gives me a rough but steady position. When I turn on 3G assisted GPS, my location jumps all over the place. I wonder if it's interference or if something's wrong with my unit.

Look on the bottom righthand side where the page is curled up. Touch that and you will see an option to change it.

Yes, not too bad...

I am currently laying in bed in the master bedroom, the bedroom being at the back of the house with the bed itself in the middle of the house (left to right)...here is what the GPS shows me...

I've tested my 3G iPad with my brother's iPhone. My iPad had me positioned exactly at the right coordinates, while my brother's iPhone showed him that he was two blocks away. Now he's extremely jealous of my very accurate iPad.

No I was referring to my 3G iPad. When I turn off 3G, the positioning seems to be more accurate. I will post pictures a little later of how off it is sometimes

Here's one example of the position being totally off. I'm actually in a car where I drew the blue arrow. The AGPS is placing me somewhere in that tree. I don't get it. Most of the times the GPS in my iPad is accurate to within a few feet. But sometimes it's really way off like it is in this picture. Is it interference , or is it my iPad 3G that has a bad GPS chip?

Even portable nav systems must have a clear view of the sky. That's why most people attach them to their windshields. Too far away from the windshield, such as below the top of the dash, and they frequently lose GPS lock. Could it be that your iPad was not close to the windshield or on the passenger seat or something? The big circle in your pic indicates it didn't have a great lock.

I don't have GPS and I'm surprised that my wifi iPad places me RIGHT on my apt building when I hit the locate button.

You image is showing us, with the LARGE circle that it is not getting a good fix. Get out of the car so you can get a better view of the sky and you will see that circle shrink to near nothing!

you can add me to the list as well. One other thing that I noticed was how much better the battery usage was on the iPad. Navigon on my iPhone would just hammer the battery. I would have the charger plugged in and it would just barely keep up. I took a trip of about 140 miles yesterday using my iPad with the screen in 2x. I think it looks pretty dang good and just props up perfectly in it's case between my cup holder and the radio. I don't have a car charger yet for it and it used about 40% of the battery on that trip. The iPhone would have been toast after 70 miles. The iPhone will heat up like a toaster and you can just watch the battery drain. I was really impressed!

Well if you notice, the big ring around your location is really huge. That usually means you're not getting a good signal strength to a satellite.
