I have a 2011 27" iMac w/ Nvidia GTX 780M and a 3rd gen Apple TV. I cloned my Yosemite partition just before instilling El Capitan, so I have essentially two identical installations, just one running a newer OS. It seems like the upgrade to 10.11 is causing some major lag with Airplay Mirroring, down to about 1 frame per second. On Yosemite, I get something like 15 frames per second — definitely not fast, but watchable.

Anybody else seeing anything similar? I've already uninstalled any 3rd party extensions that would interfere with AirPlay.

Whenever I get issues with airplay between my ATV and MacBook I tend to reboot both and that normally gets it working again. Have you tried it?

Mine is completely unusable. There is a massive input lag that varies from not noticeable to 5 seconds. And audio and video is at least 2 seconds out of sync, sometimes more. I have a 500+ mbs transfer rate from my iMac to my Airport Extreme and the ATV is wired into it directly. However it does somehow manage to maintain what appears to be a relatively high frame rate.

I've rebooted everything. This used to work near flawlessly with Mavericks, got to the point where I wouldn't use it that often with Yosemite, now only if I'm lucky can I get it to even be useable with El Capitan. I specifically waited still iMac's had wifi AC for this very reason.

I'm sorry to hear that. For me at least everything works fine. Heck, I dare say, it works more reliably now than when using Yosemite.
