Very odd Aluminum iMac RAM upgrade problem

24" Aluminum iMac, 2.4GHz core 2 duo, mid-2007 model.

I purchased 2 2GB SODIMMs of pc5300 DDR2 RAM to upgrade. I inserted them into my iMac and got the black screen, no beep symptom. I put the original RAM back in, and it boots normally. I tried both of my new SODIMMs in both slots, together with each other, individually, and mixed with the original RAM, and it will not boot.

Here's the twist. I put one of the new SODIMMs into my Dell Latitude D630, and it works just fine.

I believe the RAM meets all of Apple's requirements.

Any ideas what I could try next?

What RAM is it exactly? It's not odd that it works in your dell and not in your iMac. Apples are finicky.

okay, that's why. stick with a crucial kit, I've never had them not work.

if it were me - i'd return the memory for a refund to 1stchoicememory and go with one of the options suggested here.

had good results with both owc and crucial.

all things being equal i'd go crucial as i'm in the uk and if there were any issues it's usually faster to deal with the local post and a few hundred miles vs multiday and 3000-4000 miles

agreed, i've never had any problems with crucial. Apples are really picky to fault, i'd try to get a refund on the memory you bought. good luck!
