I've got a new M1 iMac and I have been dealing with a lot of problems while running Final Cut Pro. It seems to be using large amounts of RAM without any need. Let's say I create a project with 2 minutes 1080p60 (12Mb/s), and just do some cuttings and use some basic titles and transitions for a while.. the memory usage goes up and up.. in about 30 minutes FCP is using 8-9GB, eventually it becomes super sluggish, but if I simply close and reopen, it goes back using 500MB.

Now if I do the same exact process on my late 2013 iMac, it stays around 500-800MB no matter what.

I have no plugin's installed on FCP. The only softwares that I installed on this brand new iMac is FCP, Premiere Pro, Photoshop and Audition. I even reinstalled FCP and still going through the same issues. Also, it only happens with FCP, Premiere Pro has no performance problems.

How can I fix it?

Where do you have your cache location?

I encountered the same problem with my 16" Macbook Pro late 2019! It's weird, because I have an Intel chip. It's probably a big sur bug, because I did not notice that problem in Catalina and it happens with Photoshop too.
