iMac Pro Very slow photos edit after High Sierra, and question about upgrade

HI,
I have iMac 27” mid 2010
2.8 ghz intel core i5 8gb 1333 mhz ddr3
Ate radeon hd 5750 1024 mb

After installing high Sierra, editing photos takes too much time, and stop response sometime.
It happen espeailly when I edit Raw format file.

So I'm thinking to upgrade my iMac.
Please let me know what(Ram/SSD/...) will make most cost effective and best performance upgrade?

And let me know if it is easy to upgrade myself. I think I'm handy. however I don't have experience to upgrade iMac myself.

What's "slowing you down" is that you're trying to run the latest iteration of the OS on an old Mac with a platter-based hard drive inside.
HDD+newOS = S_L_O_W.

Unfortunately, you don't have any easy way to connect an external SSD to "get more speed".

You have two choices:
1. physically open the iMac and install an SSD
or
2. time to start shopping for something newer and faster.

HS is renowned for being slower for rendering RAW files, even pressing space bar to preview is painfully slow. Even on the newer machines its not going to be day and night.

Just go into any apple store and make a smart folder on the built in photo libraries with the D800 selected and try editing any one. The images should be of a Chinese family birthday party. Even the iMac pro is choppy as hell, when I was in there testing it the genius was so surprised at how bad the performance was.

The newest version of lightroom has improved dramatically but its still not smooth unless your using really high end machines.
