Hi guys new to the forum for this reason specifically that I'm having. But hopefully this is a great resource.
I have a 2017 imac 5k i5 40gb. I only use it for video editing. So last night I was importing video clips into final cut from an external drive.
A few minutes into it I realized that I was importing optimized very large files instead of my normal proxy files. So right after I noticed that the dreaded "disk almost full" tab popped up. So i stopped the import all together, and checked the storage to see I had 4gb left out of 1 TB which was strange because I barley keep any clips on the internal drive.
So I went and deleted all my internal video libraries and projects to relieve some space. So after all that said now my whole dock and all apps have blank pages with a compass over them, I can't open system preferences and every time I try to open an app it says "cannot open because it may be damaged or incomplete" I don't know if one has anything to do with the other but I tried everything to fix it over the phone with apple with no success. Reset a couple things which I can't remember the name. Then finally reinstalled OS but no luck.
Has anyone ever heard of anything like this?

Have you tried to rebuild the launch services database?

Launch Terminal.app

Enter this command:

Code:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -seed

Wait until it returns to the $ prompt. It might take a few minutes.
