Dear all,
I bought a VESA mount for my 27 inch iMac (core i7) after confirming with apple website that it is compatible with the new 27 inch.

But, unfortunately it DOES NOT fit!

Someone in apple support page have the same problem as me:

"I tried putting it on the new 27" iMac. The flange went on without any problem. The hole aligned with the pin, and all 8 screws were fastened easily. However, installation of the mount adapter plate was a different story... When it sits on top of the flange, the holes from the sides of the mount plate do not even align with the threaded holes of the flange. It was at least 2 mm off-centre. I had to remove the protective plastic strips at the edge of the mount adapter plate, only then the bolt can be threaded into the flange. Even so, the bolts were so tight that, on one side, I could only drive the bolt half-away in before I strip the hex pattern on top of the bolt."

Wonder anyone in this forum have the same problem? I'm going to call Apple Australia on monday morning!!!!

Wasted my 2 hr to try to figure it out!!!!

I was pretty gung-ho after getting my 27" to take my 24" LED, get the VESA mount, rotate it 90 degrees and bolt it to an adjustable bracket on the wall. Would have been pretty cool, but with all the horror stories of these VESA mounts and how much trouble their causing, I'm starting to think it's not worth it. I guess I don't really NEED a 2nd monitor anyways!

Agreed, these are tricky to install. There are some youtube videos out there that may help you with the exact steps. The manual is not detailed enough.

I have one on my i5. I knew going into this install it was tricky and so I took it slow.

One tip I can say... The top center single screw before the side pins are installed needs to be very (near extreme) tight. That screw is pressing vesa plate against the computer back and lowers it so the side pins are "nearly" aligned. Then I only started the thread on one side pin, one~two thread turns, then started the other side. Then alternated between the two tightening the pins in.

After I got it all installed, I'm not looking forward to reversing the process for an applecare store visit.

The Apple Store and Amazon reviews all talk about this issue....I had a heck of a time with my 24" iMac to get the holes to line up....had to get a good allen wrench (with a large handle) instead of the one supplied by Apple to tighten those screws

Is that just for the convenience of the Apple staff?

I'm planning on getting an articulating arm for my 27" iMac, and I had imagined that once this challenging VESA job was done that it would be staying on their for the life of the machine. From the sounds of some of those installation reports, it seemed like some of the threads and heads of the screws were already pretty stressed, let alone removing them and reinstalling them again.

Since Apple sells the VESA plates themselves, I had assumed they would have a some kind of VESA compatible rig for inspecting/repairing them for AppleCare.

(BTW, I'm still on a quest to find out the weight of the stand of the 27" iMac - you wouldn't have access to a scale would you? :) )

Yes you would have to reverse it especially if they swap the unit for a new one instead of repairing it. I not only would install the stand again, I always backup my drives and wipe and reinstall fresh OS before an apple store visit so I'm ready to leave it. That is if the defect is not stopping me from performing OS install, etc. But this is my first iMac and only have had MBPs with spare drives that I swapped in out when repair was needed.

Weight of stand only ... no screws nothing. 2 lbs 10.2 oz

Oh if you have trouble with stripping the screws, the Vesa mount is under warranty too so ask for a new one.

The VESA mount is compatible with the 27inch iMac. That goes for both the 'old' part number and the new one that specifies as being compatible with the 24 and 27inch iMac.

That said, it's tricky and requires some effort. But knowing that it does fit should give you the motivation to make it work, if it's that important to you. They key really is that center screw that brings the two side pin screws into alignment.

And I wouldn't be concerned about taking your imac in for warranty repair after fitting the VESA mount. It's an Apple product, and if they have to replace the machine, I'm sure the "genius" would be able to remove/replace your mount.
