VESA mounting available for new imac?

I was just curious if these new machines were compatible with an arm?

One of my biggest frustrations with the previous design was that you needed to either special order a VESA model that had reduced resale value, or use ugly hacks that mounted with the stand.

Yes I saw that Vesa mount is available as a separate SKU. No base included, just Vesa mouting holes. Same price. Doesn't look like the OEM stand could be added later or is removable.

As someone who's gotten burned by VESA iMacs when it came time to upgrade, I couldn't agree more.

I finally got rid of my VESA mount setup at home. The machines are worthless on the secondary market.

That’s exactly what I did, getting a 2018 Mac Mini which I have installed under the desk driving two monitors (one QHD, the other FHD) on North Bayou vesa arms, along with a 13” pen display, which also serves as a third monitor.

Works great, no tangle of cables in view, everything up off the desk, and I have the Mini faced to make access to the ports easy.

When the M1 Mini finally comes with more ports, then I’ll upgrade by simply swapping out the box.

My prediction is that it's almost impossible to re-sell a VESA-equipped iMac when it's time for a new one. Very few are going to want one.

If you buy one, better figure on it being "yours for ever more"...

I have no experience as I haven't owned an iMac since the G4, but why would it be impossible to resell? Could you not just include the/a VESA stand with it? Just curious.

It is a very niche market for people who want a VESA arm. I think some of the more polarizing colors are already going to be a bit hard to resell.

If you were to say order a violet VESA only iMac, there are only going to be a few people who will be interested in buying it off of you.

You can also trade it in for store credit, but obviously it's not going to match marketplace prices. It's not a complete sunk cost.

And apparently you can swap out the VESA mount with the traditional stand at an Apple Store whenever you come around to reselling it - this should solve the issue.
