The new 2018 mini will replace my 2011 mini IF? That IF is video cables. My Dell U2311H has older DVI and Display port connections. Since it's an HD monitor (1920x1080) what cables, adaptors, etc will I need to buy to get it running on the new 2018 mini?

Bump for same question. Thanks

DVI and HDMI are electrically compatible; you can get a passive HDMI to DVI cable would be cleanest connection, and keep your thunderbolt connections free:

Your current mini should have come with an HDMI to DVI adapter; and your monitor should have came with a standard DVI cable. You may already have everything you need on hand.

2 moves since I bought the mine and the monitor. Going to have to do some box hunting. Thanks for the info.

I have an old Dell monitor that has dvi-d and vga connectors only. I connected it to my 2012 mini with an hdmi to dvd-d cable I got at Frys at a reasonable price. I'm just going to use that and hopefully that will work.

USB-C to Displayport
Displayport to HDMI
If you were previously using the Thunderbolt 1 port: TB3 to TB2 adapter (followed by your miniDP monitor)

I'm going USB-C to Displayport to my older NEC monitor

You could also consider a USB-C -> DisplayPort cable

I'm not a fan of dongles/adapters

This adapter is not compatible with displays that use DisplayPort or Mini DisplayPort, such as the Apple LED Cinema Display. Thunderbolt and Thunderbolt 2 are not the same as Mini DisplayPort

, though the ports have the same shape.

What is the part number? I will need to connect my Apple 30” Cinema Display to the new mini...
Maybe one of these?

I still think HDMI->DVI cable for $7 is best. Can't use HDMI port for anything but your display; the thunderbolt ports you can leave available for so many other devices.

Plus HDMI/DVI... you're not converting anything - same signal, different connector.

Dug through those boxes and guess what I found? An HDMI/DVI cable buried in there. It's currently running on my 2011 mini just to make sure it's viable. Thanks for the jolt.
