I am awaiting the January 09 Keynote to buy the next iMac, and am very excited about the possibility of a better graphics card. What does everyone think the new graphics card will be, or how much better do you think the performance will be?

I have a feeling the new card in an iMac will be an nVidia. The performance will probably be better but not by much. Are you sure there will be iMacs at MWSF though? Seems rather unlikely, but possible, I guess.

From my point of view: Who cares about iMacs? Mac mini updates are necessary.

I think/hope update iMacs will be coming January 09...

Look at this link and scroll down to the time line. It looks like an update for the iMac would be appropriate soon. I also agree with you that it is time for a updated mac mini.

No doubt about it, they will be Nvidia, this will allow them to be as updated as the others. I bought my imac about a month ago now and I find the ati graphics card great, may update if I can in a couple of years though.

I would really like to see a GTX 280 or 9800, can these go into an imac?
Also 1gb memory would be fantastic, although most games dont need that much yet, does anyone know if the current imac 8800gs 512mb graphics is similar to the GPU in the ps3, also whats the current 8800gs like running windows vista or directx10.

would be great to see the 9800gx2 1gb for high end into it, i would snap one up, think apple really needs to start competing with the pc for games if it wants to get more switchers,it needs to put better graphics cards in there machines

You wont see a videocard that is that powerful in an iMac anytime soon. iMacs are not geared towards gaming, although it would be cool if they had a very high end iMac with a great video card.

Then they should stop advertising this whole new mac gaming era on iMacs. I remember for a bit they were pushing games again and showing ads with games displayed on iMacs. Seriously though, i know the iMac could be so much more capable than running demos of Lego Star Wars in Apple stores.

Well heres hoping to higher speed graphics in the next update, because like the OP, I've also sold my garbage of a PC for a future iMac as well, and though I'm not the type to go crazy on framerates and max settings (though I remember those days....), I'd like to be able to run some of the more newer first person shooters reasonably well at modest detail settings at the very least.

I think in the next update the high end imac should be suited towards the gamer or pro market, with a good graphics card, would be really good if they had a gamer option on the imac were you could customise the graphics card.still think they'll prob just go with the card in the new macbooks, how does this card compare with other ones.

I would just like to see a high end graphics option in the 20" imac. I've had my intel imac for almost 3 years now I need to upgrade badly.

^Ya that would be nice. Best of all I hope a >$1500 iMac has good graphics, not just the $2200 iMacs.
