Video card problems 3,1

I really appreciate all the help on this forum. It has got me thinking and I have learned a little more about my Mac.

I did install Snow Leopard and at when I rebooted after the install I still had the problems with only one display. However, I downloaded the updates through Software Update and on the next reboot everything was working - both monitors, FCP, and all the other software.

I too am gonna get the 5870 for my early 2008 Mac pro. I just wanted to ask- I'm using a 30" apple monitor. Do I need the adapter for the 5870? Can I run it dvi or will that be a lower resolution? I do video editing so whatever is higher is the way I'd like to go.
