Video Card question / idea?

If I can put a 8800GTX in a Mac pro to be used when in Windows, can I also have a 7300 in there for when I am in OS X, and have them hooked to my monitor via KVM switch and just flip back and forth depending on the OS I am working in?

pls do a quick search in the forum about the 8800 GTX
it can't be run at the same time with the 7300 the machine does not boot up

but as for the kvm idea it should be no problem
if you can get the 8800GTX and the 7300 to play nice together

Well, what about another high end PC only card?
Or is it not going to like any two different type cards sitting in there?

You can put 2 NVidia 7300GT or 2 ATI X1900XT Card and it will work. Other PC Card will work on Bootcamp but not on Mac OS X. I know it's suck. I would rather have a high end NVidia Card then ATI.

So basically, when you want to play in Windows,you shall have to insert the 8800GTX, and when you want to work in OSX, pop in the 7300.

I wonder if the new ATI coming out will work, it's supposed to be as good if not better than the 8800GTX.

I wonder why Nvidia and ATI don't just make drivers for both Operating Systems and then Apple wouldn't have to do it and there'd be a lot more choices when deciding on a video card. Unless it's not that simple.

I'd like to correct you, i have 2 7300GT's connected to three monitors and in windows (via boot camp) you have to do some major work for it to see the second video card. In OSX "it just works"

So for the original question there is a possibility that even if the computer starts with the "PC only" card plugged in you'd have to do some software and driver surgery before you could use it.

I really want a Mac 8800 card or DX10 equivalent from ATi that works in the Macpro for both OS's...... Not sure how long i can wait, otherwise i might be the 1st switcher to go back the other way....

I'm with you. I basically want a card for DX10 that I can use in both Vista and Mac OS X. However if getting the 8800 and 7300 to work together is possible (you know peoples are trying) then I'd buy a Mac Pro today!

Well the x1900 is a pretty powerful card yes there is better out there. But it can handle anything you send at it. Unless you are looking for even better frame rates in games I don't see why this card is not enough for you. I have the x1900 and love it!
