I have a 580x in my 2019 MP with 128 GB ram and the 16 core chip. I'm looking to speed up rendering and exporting in FCPX. I can purchase the 5700X from apple business for $900. Is it reasonable to expect 2x render performance since it has 2x the teraflops and 2x the ram of my current card? Is this the route I should go? I'd like to keep my budget around this. Thanks in advance for any guidance.

Depends, export is not just rendering, but encoding as well.

No matter how fast the rendering is, if the encoding performance doesn’t change, then the export time won’t change.

For H264 export, that should be handled by the GPU video engine. And unless you changed to a GPU that has stronger video engine. I can’t see why the export time can be improved noticeably.

Of course, if you have super strong CPU etc, you may use software encoding, which still faster than hardware encoding. Then further increase CPU power can improve export performance (at almost linear scale).

No, in my experience. Max improvement more like another 50%. Having said this, the 580X is a dog and not worth spending any more money on (sorry). Perhaps the W5700X might be better suited?

Thank you for your help @h9826790 and @profdraper . I made a typo, I did mean to type 5700x as an upgrade from apple for $900. I'm thinking that's money well spent to speed up rendering, encoding, and transcoding.
