The 13" Ultimate Air (I have one as my primary machine) but I wanted to know ... How is final cut express on it??

I'm looking to do some 30-45min short films, curious if anyone is running express on their air frequently. If so ....

How does it perform?

Anything you recommend?

I have an iMAC 24inch 3.06 GHZ and editing with FC pro is very slow even though I use the least compressed codec AVC intra 100. So I think a MBA will not "cut" it especially whe you use codec like HDV which most people do.

the SSD really speeds things up!
i'm got a 21 inch imac (3.06ghz) which runs final cut express with few problems, i wouldn't call it fast but i can live with it.
the macbook air is much faster though! the graphics card is capable enough to run it, and the SSD makes everything feel 2x as fast as the imac.
solong as you crank your fans up (cpu gets pretty high) then editing with final cut express should be great!

I have a MBA 11" 1.60/4 and I had the 1.40/2 and I can honestly tell you that editing in Final Cut Express 4 is buttery smooth. Encoding can be a little on the slow side but I do my editing with the MBA then the encoding on my MAC Pro at home. A perfect combination.

And yes, I think the combination of SSD and clever Apple engineering has something to do with it. Even with the 2 GB of RAM it was still smooth.

Oh and, I edit in AVCHD and HDV.
