Ok, gang, planning on getting an iPad when the 3G models come out. I'm mostly going to be using apps, photos and videos on the Pad (vs the Phone which I use for some phone, photos, apps, and music.)

The question I have is, with videos that you're converting over to be used on the iPad, what sort of file sizes are you seeing for 1 hour of video? I'm trying to decide between the 32 and 64 GB models and I'm just wondering what sort of file sizes I can expect for movies converted over so I can gauge which model to buy for my needs.

Thanks!

about 800mbs for an hour and a half long movie.

It really just depends on the length, graphics, etc. :)

Also, movies purchased through iTunes and digital copies are going to be 1GB+

Hmm... ok... Sounds like I better go with the 64GB model then... Sigh... more $$$ out the door!

700mb looks great on the iPad for all movies. You can go 750mb for longer movies and still get 2 movies per 3 GB.

The few Blu-Rays I've ripped with handbrake at 1024 width gives me files @ 1.5 - 1.8 GB in size.

I suppose it depends on the movie, but to my eyes a ripped standard def DVD looks about the same as a ripped BluRay down-resd to 1024. I doubt I will rip any more BluRays for the iPad. It just takes too damn long and plain old DVD looks too good on the 'pad!
