Yosemite has FPS problems compared to Mavericks.

At least on my 15" retina MBP 2013 (16gbram + i7 + dedicated graphics) Beam Sync seems to be the problem when connected to a Cinema Display.

Best seen with screen magnifying.

PS:
The FPS tool you see is Quartz Debug by Apple itself.

==========================

1. Beam Sync Automatic (OSX Default)
Result: Stuttering here and there on the UI.

2. Beam Sync OFF
Result: Smooth user experience.

==========================

Some people might say: Hey Beam Sync is for keeping everything at 60FPS to prevent tearing effects (when the display gets more FPS than it can handle) BUT
When Beam Sync is on yosemite drops way below 60fps most of the time (in my case I usually get 40-50 fps). When I disable it, it stays way above 60fps so my display get's at least a fps for every refresh.

What do you guys think? To me it seams that Beam Sync in Yosemite is differently implemented than in Mavericks (in Mavericks it stays on 60FPS without high variance).

So, how does one turn off this Beam Sync in Yosemite?

This is so freakin weird.

Have a late 2013 dGPU 15" rMBP. With a good deal of windows open and Bean Sync on automatic I get 30FPS when repeating the mission control animation, when I disable beam sync I get over 60FPS.

If only there wasn't so much bloody tearing, I'd leave this beam sync thing off all the time. I'll try post a video tomorrow or something.

Quartz DeBug

Pro Tools 11 and 12 has a bug at least for some people where the graphics are glitchy seems to be a bug in Yosemite 10.10.3 and earlier. When turning running quartz debug the problem goes away immediately. Over all the graphics seem less smooth for me although games run fine. I have a R9 280x in my upgraded mac Pro from 4,1 to 5,1.
I don't even need to disable beam sync to make pro tools smooth just run Quartz Debug in the background and that does the trick so no screen tearing.

Somehow the Beam Sync implementation seems to cost too much performance in Yosemite compared to Mavericks. If FPS can easily get over 60FPS without Beam Sync (VSync) then why do they fall much below when switched on (in the same situation)?
