Yosemite leads to serious framerate drops when connecting a rMBP to an external display like for example the Thunderbolt Display.

Jonny Ive wanted to get rid of skeuomorphism and now introduces ui laggyness caused by translucent material (which stands against the purity paradigm IMHO).

Yes, it's a known issue. 10.10.2 might solve this problem though. I'm not ready to install the beta on my rMBP but on my Mac Mini the graphics performance seems to be noticeable better.

I have/had (not sure yet) that exact problem. That is why, among other reasons, my computer is doing a clean install as I type this on my iPhone. I'll know if that fixes it in around a half an hour.

It's a known bug. You can fix it temporarily with a restart.

Apple's optimization has been dreadful these past few years. I'm willing to bet it was legacy code from the Serlet era that kept OS X so smooth even in the last few years.

It does not seem like 'smoothness' is a priority at Apple anymore, or perhaps they no longer have the talent needed to achieve this.

Wrong. The install completed, I manually copied all of my files over and installed all of my applications, and the computer does feel a LOT faster. Things like clicking on the file and edit buttons in the menu bar were taking a couple of seconds before, but not anymore. The animation to mission control is smoother. Overall, boot ups and opening applications are quicker. Performance could be a tad better, but it isn't anywhere near unbearable for me anymore.

I did not see the video and I am not saying this will surely happen but be prepared to get worse performance over time. Mainly with some uptime and dual monitors.

Turn off transparency and things are back to normal. That's one of the reasons I don't use transparency, it takes a huge toll on the UI performance. There's no need for my CPU/GPU to go up to 20% when scroll pages in safari!

This days, mainly in the introduction of retina scaling, PERFORMANCE GAIN is what we really need to see in apple OSX presentations, it has been lost since the introduction of new OSX. Instead of new features they need to focus back on having a more stable OS.

It's very sad to see this happening to a company that once got it right. They introduced a new operating system (10.6) with the main selling point beeing no new features and performance BOOST instead.

Now they introduce a superslow operating system that looks unrefined and in general very rough around the edges.

Apple was always different because they had a close look at the details and Sir Steveness himself went crazy if something didn't feel right.

Dear Apple, please fix OS X.
