It looks better than what they have now. But did they really think they were being serious with all of those animations, especially in 2003? No one had the hardware then to run all of that stuff, most don't even have enough hardware now to run Vista. You would think a company as large and important as Microsoft would be a little more realistic in its announcements of its most important product. When I see stuff like this, it baffles me why that company is a successful as it is. Did they think they could fool everybody?

But why not have eyecandy on newer machines? We've got eyecandy on our newer machines that isn't available on old hardware. Granted, it's not near as involved as some of that stuff was, but hey, whatever floats peoples' boats.

I did like the phone, though. It'd be better if everyone had cells with 3G and video cams for iChat access on the go and at home, but a regular phone wouldn't be all bad.

Longhorn Rocked, guess they should have released in October 2003 . I have tried Vista RC1 and it blew, nothing really spectacular rather it was more of a nuisance. It took me over an hour to figure out how to disable the security features that caused about 30 pop ups asking for okay's every minute.
Plus it made my Overclocked Athlon 64 gaming rig slow to an absolute crawl. I also found out HP will not be making a driver for my printer nor will Microtek make one for my page scanner.
Vista did run decently on a Core 2 Duo e6600, with 2GB DDR2 800mhz, Geforce 7900GTX, and Dual 250GB Hard Drives in RAID 0. Note I said it ran DECENTLY on that rig, WTF .
I would hate to see someone run Vista on a machine that meets the minimum specifications.

The lyric from that Pink song, "I'll be burning rubber, you'll be kissing my ass" really does seem like it was a match made in heaven for Vista. Still, pwn'd as it has been, Vista is going to be a good thing for Windows.... I believe.

Vista wouldn't be such a bad operating system (nah, it'd still be pretty crappy) if they decided to do away with all that different build crap (eg do away with the home and professional and ultimate) editions. Particularly when Microsoft's competitors are selling their OS's with full networking turned on, and server additions as well. Another thing is Microsoft's laidening their OS with DRM (and software to make sure no one hacks the DRM, but alas' that too will be hacked. .) Another thing is the average home user doesn't update for at least five years (If I recall correctly), so running Vista on a Dell Dimension Pent. III is going to be next to impossible. Gamers won't update due to the restrictions imposed on it, and the gaming market realises this. Windows is writing it's own grave.

I love the way that ad turns to 'cool' music when Vista comes on. Mmmm. Pink... Right, yeah... Can't wait for Leopard.
Other than Time Machine and Spaces, I just don't see a major improvement over Tiger as some of the other releases have been. Tiger was revolutionary for it's time, Leopard will build on it, but it's not like ZOMG!!1!!111! At least from what I've seen so far. The biggest thing I think for me would be Boot Camp, but with CIDER and all that, I suspect Boot Camp to soon be irrelevant.

Whose hardware would have been able to run that in 2003? To this day, you have to have a pretty beefy machine to take advantage of all of Vistas fancy stuff..
Well, obviously we are able to take advantage of that fancy stuff otherwise we'd not have been able to watch it.

I'm surprised I've never seen that side of Longhorn before, or at least I don't remember it. All the previews I saw were when they'd already started using the ugly black temporary theme that just looked worse than XP.

I guess i'll be the lone fellow here and actually say I think Vista's visuals improved... all that jelly blue? yuck. Give me the black and transparency anyday...

On a random note, how come I always hear people mentioning how windows is so unstable? I never had winXP crash on me in my life. Actually my mac crashed more than XP did (once)
I'm not saying windows is better: after using OS X for a month, using XP is a pain. I dont know any of the keyboard shortcuts, everything is small and ugly, cheap looking. It's a bit snappier but who cares.
