video out on mbp

So i know the mbp has dvi out, but i was wondering if it is possible to use my old imac (g5 pre intel 20") as an external display... and would i need more video ram (the 256 upgrade) to use an external display such as my imac or hdtv using a dvi to hdmi dongle.

the problem, i think, is that your imac doesn't have dvi-in. if your imac does have a video port, it's for video-out, meaning you can put your imac images on an external display, but you can use the imac's display as an external for your mbp. somebody please correct me if i'm wrong.

Only the original iMac had a standard SVGA (15-pin) connector between the main and video boards. I believe you can just plug an extension into the video card side and drive it that way. Other models don't have that ability, AFAIK.

edit: btw, the connector is internal

Crack open the iMac and do what they told you is you best bet (don't really crack it open, be careful). The VRAM will be fine, any MBP can power the awe inspiring 30" ACD at full resolution, so anything will be fine.

i believe it makes also a difference if you run two external displays.
