A friend of mine is wondering is there any free iOS video player app that can Airplay video directly (casting) to an Apple TV without using Airplay Mirroring and can continue to Airplay video with app running background or with iOS screen locked?

He tried several free apps such as VLC but all of them requires you to use Airplay Mirroring and the app must run in the foreground for Airplay Mirroring to work.

I personally use Infuse Pro which have all those features but my friend doesn’t want to pay for what he considers simple feature that all video player apps should be able to do.

Any information is appreciated.

Thank you

Your friend doesn't want much... a free app that doesn't cost to download and without paying for subscription and that does something they consider should be free?

Where are the videos stored? Cloud, local network, streaming service?

He wants to stream mostly from his own NAS and some from cloud.
Given the lack of replies in this thread, I take that ther isn’t any free apps that will do what he wants.

Does the maker of his NAS have their own app he could use?
Or does his TV have the ability to stream via DLNA?

Thanks for the nPlayer Lite suggestion.
That looks like the only free video player app that can do AirPlay in the background without requiring mirroring.
