Does anyone know of any developers who are working on an app to record videos? Does the SDK allow someone to be able to manipulate the camera in that way? I'm thinking about jailbreaking my phone, but if someone is already working on a program to do it, I won't.

Video recording will be a feature soon enough. If Apple is making apps themselves, i expect some more cool things from them as well.

I'm pretty sure in the SDK you have access to do something like that, but i'm not positive.

Either way, i expect something soon.

just jailbreak. doooo it!

Will I lose anything? Are there any drawbacks to jailbreaking your iPhone? I don't want anything bad to happen ... I'm stuck with this and my iPhone 3G plan for the next 2 years lol, and ATM I can't afford to get a new one right away. Gah, I think about things way too hard huh..

And thanks to the mod who moved this. I just realized I had posted it in the wrong category. Sorry about that! hehe

Monsterandfriends.com and ushow.com are possible developers interested in app store for video recording apps.

you cant jailbreak the 3g iphone yet.

While I havent quite read through the entire SDK documentation yet I am never the less by now pretty certain that it currently does not provide you with direct access to the camera.

You can launch the camera app to obtain a photo already taken or a photo that the user takes just then, but no direct feed from the camera which would make a video recorder app impossible.

There is no video engine currently on the iPhone, so it's a pretty big job to get video recording. It is not available in the SDK.

Some developers have demonstrated video streaming using the camera api and grabbing frames using there own video engine. But they are not available yet.

Hopefully it won't be that long!!

I really want to jailbreak my 3G phone, as i want mms, orb, video recording back!!

Wait ... you can use MMS with jailbreaking? Yeah, I'm definitely jailbreaking this bad boy once someone does it, which will probably be within the next couple of weeks or so.

you actually cant use MMS with jailbreaking
you used to be able to, but the application no longer works
and also, you had to have mms on your plan, which, being an iphone customer, you dont

jailbreaking has lots of positives, but also lots of drawbacks
it messed my phone up 3 times, once permanently freezing it so that it required a restore, and once possibly (though im not sure if this is why, i believe it is because of the strain on the hardware from jailbreaking or major firmware changes, as the same problem is thought to be caused by upgrading to 2.0) giving my phone an infamous dead strip
