MacRumors videographer Dan Barbera picked up a new iPhone 15 Pro Max on launch day, and he spent the last four days using it non-stop to give MacRumors readers an idea of how the new iPhone experience is going and his first thoughts on the features Apple added this year.

There have been complaints about the new iPhone 15 Pro models getting too hot, but other than a heat issue when using an uncertified USB-C cable to connect to CarPlay, Dan hasn't run into trouble and he hasn't seen overheating problems. The same is true for the rest of us at MacRumors - our iPhones appear to be functioning as intended and running cool following the initial setup and syncing period.

With the switch to titanium, Apple lowered the weight of the iPhone 15 Pro models, plus added contoured edges that are much more comfortable to hold. Dan says that this is one of the most notable changes for him, and it makes picking up an iPhone 14 or iPhone 13 downright uncomfortable.

Battery life has been solid, but the Action Button is a work in progress and it can take some time to figure out what's most useful. We'll have a dedicated Action Button video coming sometime in the near future.

As for the camera, it's unsurprisingly pretty great. 24-megapixel photos make a difference, and the 5x Telephoto lens is an improvement over the prior 3x version. We're also planning an in-depth camera comparison, so stay tuned for that.

Make sure to watch Dan's full video, and if you have one of the new iPhone 15 Pro models, let us know what you think in the comments below.

Well that made my old heart skip a beat or two!

But alas!
Carry on as before…

Went to the Apple Store the other day and played with a 15 Pro Max. It is a little more comfortable to pick up than my 14 Pro Max, but I think I’ll stay with mine. I love the purple on it. I’ll just replace the battery eventually and rock this one, case free, until a super feature comes out in a future model that I can’t resist.

The 15 is still a nice, comfortable phone even the blue on the regular 15 is the whitest blue in history.

Based on the great wall of sentiment of "USB-C is a lint magnet" and "will quickly become wobbly and/or broken in use" BEFORE the launch, I thought the whole review would be about digging lint out, lint removal tips & tricks, and regularly repairing the USB-C port at "insanely expensive repair prices." What happened?

And wow! How lucky have I (and now Dan) been, using USB-C in the rest of Apple's product lineup for years now with nary a single lint incident, nor a wobble, nor broken port. I feel sorry for all you other Apple product owners who have scant time to enjoy the tech for having to deal with all of that "forced upon us" misery.

Maybe the heat is a feature??? Incinerating the lint as it accumulates? Only Apple can innovate lint incineration!

;)

I’ve had the 15 pro max (natural titanium 1 TB) since Friday and I’ve not felt it overheat once. My 14 Pro overheated quite often. But turns out that was AT&T Active Armor which I promptly deleted when I found out it was draining the battery. So I feel I know what I should be watching for, and I’m just not experiencing it.

I do feel lightning was more sturdy. But we shall see. I have AppleCare so I’ll choose to not worry about it.

I was surprised my 15 Pro didn’t get warm using wired CarPlay with GPS navigation (maps) and Apple Music over cellular after an hour-long drive on Sunday.

Since it’s been fine, I wasn’t expecting it to get hot, but I was surprised it wasn’t really even warm when I grabbed it out of the little phone cubby in my car.

Aside from the cable (8” USB-A to USB-C from Amazon), I have charging set to the 80% limit, so I wonder if that could play a part in the reduced temperature.

The heat issue is going to depend upon the battery manufacturer. We are seeing the same thing with 14 Pro where it’s occurring or not depending upon the battery source.
Did you just pull that out of your arse LOL? how are people determining the battery manufacturer exactly? are folks opening up their phones?

I have a Tesla Model 3 MY2021 and the Qi charger has always been very good charging my XR with bulky covers (Mous, QuadLock). Anyone else sharing Dan's terrible feedback on Tesla Qi chargers + newer models (with bulky cameras)? I use it a lot and it would be annoying to find out my new 15 Pro is bad at charging like that...

My 12 PM and my 14 PM without covers had no problems charging on the Tesla Qi chargers, my wife had the same phones and usecovers on her phones and had no problems. Don't have the car anymore so can't test it with a 15 PM.

I will upgrade from 14 Pro Max to 15 Pro Max. My local carrier store is quickly out of Pro Max stock for a month or two after a launch.
