iPhone 8/Plus Video settings help please

I have to shoot a video of someone for 2 minutes speech, I'm using iPhone 8 camera
Just a little help on settings would be helpful if someone can help me out please,..

Playback on the phone is fine, and is fine on VLC too for 1080 HD at 30, but when I up it to 1080 at 60 fps, I get break up of screen, juddering movement when camera moves, despite the setting saying that one is 'smoother'. It isn't. Any help would be most appreciated as to why it doesn't' look as watchable as the 30 fps.

Am using the standard Mac Image Capture to transfer the video. Not tried 4K, but would probably be too large for what I need.

While your iPhone 8 can play back 1080p 60 FPS video fine, most Macs can't unless it is a modern top of the line model. What you're seeing on your PC/Mac is the GPU choking on all the data and dropping frames.

Shoot at 30 FPS.

Appreciate your reply, thanks for that. Yes, old 2011 MBP so that makes sense. I'll stick with the 1080/30.

I know there are more options to film video on the iPhone 8 than my old iPad Mini 4, but as far as the mic goes for picking up speech, does the newer iPhone 8 use a more advanced mic than the iPad Mini 4 as it's a newer product?

Using the internal mic and shooting video at the same time (video with sound) usually sounds pretty bad. The sound part of the video is way too compressed and the mic is not hi-fi.
People have better luck using an external mic. I don't have a suggestion for one but there's info on threads about good microphones on this forum somewhere -- I recall

I'm assuming you are capturing video in HEVC. HEVC/h265 is a video codec designed for better compression however it requires compatible hardware to decode easily. Your 2011 Mac won't be able to play that very smoothly. When sending the video to other sources it will convert (transcode) to something more compatible if the device doesn't support HEVC.

Goto Settings > Photos > Automatic. This will transcode the video to avc/h264 which is compatible with other devices. If that is already selected Image Capture might be bypassing that conversion.

Thanks. It’s already set to ‘Automatic’ yes.

Because I have to send this to someone else there’s nothing to say it may not be OK at their end if they’re using newer product, but probably risky.

HEVC, no idea. Whatever the standard setting on the iPhone is. Second one down. 1080 HD at 30 fps
